I competed at an international level in Powerlifting between 2012 and 2014. During this period I broke Oceania records in the squat and total. I’ve also made appearances in weightlifting on a national platform here in New Zealand. I have recently started focusing on pure strength again, chasing a lifetime goal of a 300kg Deadlift.

As an exercise scientist, my main research interests are related to training methods to improve strength and power. I completed my PhD through AUT in 2017, my thesis was titled “Tapering Strategies to Enhance Maximal Strength“. You can find my published research here.
I have coached athletes in a range of sports, from athletics to rugby, but I specialise in strength sports.
I enjoy writing and have written articles for Stronger by Science, Reactive Training Systems, and Weightlifting House. I am also a writer for the REPS Research Review, a Biolayne research review where you can learn about the latest trends in diet, nutrition, and training with easy to understand science-backed reports, insights, and articles.
